Fireplaces: wood and/or gas?

Our original concept regarding fireplaces was that we wanted a wood fireplace in the living room and a gas fireplace in the master suite.  Both of them were to be in the end of the "bump-out", probably sharing the same chimney/flue.

Now, because of some pretty cool looking gas fireplaces from the UK, we're considering going with gas in both rooms--and maybe in the guest suite, too.

We're nowhere close to deciding yet, but we're having fun looking.  While we love the sound, smell, and warmth of a "real" wood fireplace, we also realize they are messy, and hauling wood around isn't fun.  Also going with gas would allow us, if we chose, to eliminate the chimney all-together and go with wall-vented units.  Remote control--is that cool or what?

Here are some links to some fireplace "looks" we like.

We like several ideas from Acantha.

How about a "hole in the wall" fireplace?

Geoflame and European Home have some more examples.

We'll keep looking . . .
